Girls Tennis narrowly edged out by Greensburg

The Connersville Lady Spartans hosted EIAC conference opponent Greensburg on Friday night in a competitive showdown. The match featured strong play throughout, highlighted by powerful groundstrokes and impressive hustle from both teams. From the opening games, each point was hard-fought, showcasing the players’ determination and high level of competition. In the end, Greensburg edged out the Spartans with a narrow 3–2 victory. At No. 1 singles, Sophia Starr earned a win over Mary Harmon, 6–3, 7–6 (7–3). Bella Starr fell at No. 2 singles to Emma Kuntz, 3–6, 3–6, while Amielya Mays was defeated by Adelynn Stier, 1–6, 0–6, at No. 3 singles. In doubles play, the No. 1 team of Cam Butts and Trinitee Steele dropped a close match to Mya Comer and Averi Helms, 4–6, 5–7. The No. 2 duo of Maddie Harrison and Ella Miller secured a win, defeating Sophie Buerny and Kiera Kennelly, 6–2, 7–6 (7–5). In junior varsity action, Frances Kelly won at No. 1 singles with a 6–0 victory over Allie Schroeder, while Payton Dice added another singles win, 6–3. In doubles, Abby Keal and Ella Poe earned a 7–5 win over Veda Fox and Maya Kennelly. The No. 2 doubles team of Madison Smith and Lorelei Hughes fell in a tight tiebreaker to Chloe Wentzel and Rachel Lipps, 6–7 (5–7). The teams of Rylie Keal and Kami Scott, as well as Dani Abrams and Eileen Wang, both lost 0–6 against Veda Fox and Maya Kennelly. With the JV match ending in a tie, Connersville’s record stands at 2–2–1 overall and 0–1–1 in conference play. The varsity loss moves the Spartans to 3–2 overall and 1–1 in conference play. Connersville will be on the road next week, traveling to Centerville to face the Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday, April 21, and to Cambridge City on Thursday, April 23 to take on the Lady Golden Eagles. Both matches are scheduled for 5 p.m. The Spartans will wrap up the week at the New Castle Invitational on Saturday, April 25, beginning at 9 a.m. Their next home match is set for Monday, April 27, when they host Lawrenceburg at 5 p.m.
