Strong Hitting Not Enough As Connersville Varsity Baseball Falls To Hagerstown

Connersville Varsity Spartans fell 5-3 to Hagerstown on Tuesday despite out-hitting them eight to four. Patterson and Bentley each collected two hits for Connersville Varsity Spartans. Connersville Varsity Spartans were the first to get on the board in the first when Bentley doubled, scoring two runs. Connersville Varsity Spartans added one run in the second after Patterson singled to center field. Hagerstown flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the third, scoring five runs on three hits to take the lead, 5-3. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Rector that drove in three. Cheeseman earned the win for Hagerstown. The pitcher allowed two hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out five and walking one. McMullen pitched three and one-third innings in relief for Connersville Varsity Spartans. The hurler gave up one hit and zero runs while, striking out two and walking six. Brannon took the loss for Connersville Varsity Spartans. The pitcher went two and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs (one earned) on three hits, striking out two and walking five. Hall led things off on the mound for Hagerstown. The starting pitcher gave up five hits and three runs (two earned) over two innings, striking out five and walking none. Bentley drove the middle of the lineup, leading Connersville Varsity Spartans with two runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Flanigan, Keller, Patterson, and McMullen each stole multiple bases for Connersville Varsity Spartans. Connersville Varsity Spartans ran wild on the base paths, collecting nine stolen bases for the game. Rector led Hagerstown with three runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The shortstop went 2-for-3 on the day. Vinson led Hagerstown with four walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing 11 walks for the game. Hagerstown turned one double play in the game. Connersville Varsity Spartans welcome Richmond on Wednesday for their next game.
