8th Grade White Boys Baksetball

The CMS 8th grade white basketball team nearly completed a dramatic comeback Wednesday night, but their late surge wasn’t enough as they fell 31-28 to the Lincoln Golden Eagles. For much of the contest, the Spartans struggled to find rhythm on both ends of the floor. Lincoln controlled the pace through the first three and a half quarters, pushing the lead to 11 with under three minutes remaining. Suddenly, CMS flipped the switch. Sparked by a burst of defensive intensity, the Spartans forced several turnovers and converted on the other end, trimming the deficit to just one point with a minute to play. Despite the surge, CMS couldn’t quite capture the lead in the final possessions and Lincoln held on to secure the narrow victory. We finally started playing with the urgency and energy we needed from the start. I’m proud of the way the boys fought back, but we have to learn to compete like that for four full quarters. The Spartans were led by Xavier Cooley, who scored 11 points to pace the offense. Mason Jones added 6 points, while Daxton Gregory and Kris Clark chipped in 4 a piece. Asher Ervin rounded out the scoring with 3 points. CMS looks to build on the energy of their late game run as they prepare for the next matchup on Tuesday when they host St. Mary’s. 7th grade is scheduled to start at 6pm.
