The 7th Red boys basketball team lost their first game of the season Wednesday night to a scrappy Muncie Southside team, 41-34. Connersville came out strong to start the game going up 8-2 at one point before the Panthers fought back to take a 12-11 lead after one. Both teams struggled on the offensive end in the second period as each team could only muster 4 points, which allowed Muncie to cling to a 16-15 lead at the break. The Panthers won the third quarter by narrowly edging the Spartans again, 10-9. Down two going into the final period, Connersville committed nine turnovers to allow Muncie to pull away in the end. Turnovers led to the loss tonight as we had twenty-five on the evening compared to Muncie's ten. When you give a team fifteen extra possessions, it is really hard to win. Our boys did a great job of keeping it close for three quarters but just came up a little short in the end. I was proud of how hard they played even when things weren't going our way. Leading the way for Connersville was Bryson Walker with a game high 20 points and 10 rebounds. Desmond Shipman also battled throughout picking up 7 points and 8 rebounds. Kohl Britton, Harper Buckles and Noah Frost each added a bucket with Leo Moyer tossing in a free throw to round out the scoring. The Spartans (10-1) will look to get back on track Saturday when they host the Connersville Invitational. Connersville will play Rushville at 9am in Spartan Arena to start the day with Centerville and Yorktown scheduled to go at 10:15.
