The 7th Red boys basketball team was in action again Monday night as they traveled to East Central. The Trojans battled the Spartans early before Connersville took over and grabbed a 39-18 victory. After one quarter of play, the score was all knotted up at 10 apiece thanks to a 3-point buzzer beater by Leo Moyer. The second quarter wasn't much different as the Spartans held on to a slim 17-16 lead at the half. During the break, we discussed how our defensive intensity just wasn't there like it usually is. We challenged the boys to come out more aggressive and to play much better defense. The Spartans responded amazingly as they caused thirteen Trojan turnovers in the final two periods and only allowed two points during that time. I was really proud of the boys and how they came out and fought in the second half. Our defense really led to a number of offensive opportunities as well. The third quarter score ended up 29-18 before Connersville pulled away for good in the fourth. Leading the way for Connersville was Bryson Walker with 16 points, including 5-for-6 from the charity stripe. Desmond Shipman added 7 points and a number of steals to help the cause. Leo Moyer had 5 points with Alec Lakes adding 4 points off of two nice assists from Kohl Britton. Noah Frost knocked down a 3-point basket with Harper Buckles and Anthony Becker each tossing in a bucket as well. The Spartans are now 10-0 on the year and welcome Muncie South to Spartan Arena Wednesday night.
