The CMS 8th grade white team struggled to find any offensive rhythm last night, falling to the Rushville Lions 37-12. Rushville opened the game with strong defensive pressure taking a 12-6 lead after the 1st quarter. The Lions extended their advantage to 24-9 at halftime, routinely beating the Spartans to loose balls and controlling the pace. Rushville continued to pull away in the third quarter, outscoring the Spartans 10-0 to build a 34-9 lead. Connersville’s offensive struggles continued despite getting good looks at the basket, the shots simply wouldn’t fall. The two teams tied 3-3 in the 4th quarter allowing the Lions to cruise to the 37-12 victory. When we didn’t turn the ball over, we got the shots we wanted. We ran our offense, created good looks, but we didn’t finish. At some point you have to put the ball in the basket. Rushville simply outworked us. They beat us to loose balls, played harder in every quarter, and we didn’t match that effort. We can’t have that happen if we want to win basketball games. This team is capable of much better. We’ll get back to practice, clean some things up, and make sure our effort is where it needs to be. Leading scorer for the night was Mason Jones with 6 points. Xavier Cooley had 4 points, and Holland Moore had 2 points. The 7th and 8th grade white teams will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Cambridge City to take on the Lincoln Golden Eagles. 7th grade tips off at 6pm.
