On Friday night, the Freshman Spartans took the court in the CMS Arena to take part in a triple header against the visiting Rushville Lions. Connersville came out of the gates strong, using their pressure defense to turn the Lions over several times, taking an 11-5 lead after the first period. In the second quarter it was a stalemate, with both teams trading baskets, leading to a 19-13 Spartan lead at the break. As they have the previous two games, the freshman regrouped at intermission and made it a priority to tighten things up on the defensive end. Coach Neuman’s thoughts on this, “While we were up at the half, there were still many buckets given up due to missed assignments/rotations. We knew we were capable of shutting their offense down, it was just a matter of attention to details.” The young Spartans came out and asserted themselves in the third period, outscoring Rushville 11-2 behind a pair of Eli Smith 3 pointers. Connersville’s Freshman would go on to outscore the Lions 19-4 in the second half, bringing home the 38-18 victory. For the Spartans, Eli Smith led the way with 14 points, while Justin Kitchen followed up with 7 points and several rebounds/blocks. Carson Moore tallied 4, while being active on the defensive end. Andrew Miracle added 4 points, also grabbing a number of rebounds and heading the pressure defense that the Spartans applied. Adam Allen contributed 3 points and grabbed two rebounds. Zane Ellison and Gavin Schneider added 2 points each while being very active totaling several steals and rebounds each. The Freshman moved to 3-0 after this win and went on to play the Shelbyville Golden Bears on Saturday night.
