The Chelsea Girls Cross Country team delivered an impressive performance at the Jackson Invitational at Ella Sharp Park this past weekend. Competing against strong regional fields, the Bulldogs posted a series of personal records (PRs), season bests (SBs), and gutty performances across both the Varsity and JV races. Leading the charge for Chelsea, Senior Captains Persephone Berg and Grace Krugh set the standard by running personal records. Berg posted Chelsea’s top time of the weekend, crossing the line in 22:43.2 to finish 58th out of 111 runners. Krugh also delivered a standout performance, shaving 13 seconds off her previous career best to finish in 24:45.3. The Bulldogs saw major time drops across the board from the rest of the lineup as well. Junior Emily Xiao ran a PR of 29:03.1, topping her previous career mark by 9 seconds. In just their second high school 5k races, Ester De Santana Gomez dropped an astounding 4 minutes to finish in 29:15.8, while Aya Kushner ran a PR of 26:03.1. Meanwhile, Addison Leschuk (22:54.4) and Mila Schemahorn (23:01.0) both delivered season-best performances. Kelsey Burr slashed over 2 minutes off her prior race time to record a season-best 24:35.8, and Kathryn Dunn showed incredible toughness by pushing through a cold to run a strong 23:41.1. In the team standings, Chelsea finished 13th overall in a competitive 14-team field with 333 points. Mason took home first place with 46 points, followed by SEC White Division rival Adrian in second with 74 points. The Bulldogs won't have long to rest as they prepare for the second SEC Jamboree on Tuesday, September 29th, at Heritage Park. The upcoming meet will feature a single race combining all runners from the SEC White Division, giving Chelsea another great chance to test their speed on a beautiful course.
