It was a busy Friday for Chelsea Athletics, headlined by a thrilling rivalry win on the pitch and solid individual performances on the links and diamond. Here is a breakdown of the varsity action from May 8th. Girls Soccer: Bulldogs Secure the Sweep In the marquee matchup of the night, the Chelsea Girls Varsity Soccer team hosted rival Dexter and came away with a gritty 3-2 victory. The match remained tense until Emma Ruszkiewicz found the back of the net halfway through the second half, breaking the deadlock. Her goal proved to be the decider, ensuring the Bulldogs earned the season sweep over the Dreadnaughts. The win highlights Chelsea’s poise under pressure as they continue their strong spring campaign. Boys Golf: Westcott Shines at Polo Fields The Boys Varsity Golf team headed to The Derby at Polo Fields, facing off against a deep field of competitors. The Bulldogs finished in 11th place overall with a team score of 324. Parker Westcott turned in the performance of the day for Chelsea. Westcott navigated the challenging course to shoot a 75, a score strong enough to earn him 14th place in the individual standings. Girls Softball: Power Hitting vs. Columbia Central The bats were alive for the Bulldogs in a high-scoring doubleheader against Columbia Central. While the results were mixed, Chelsea displayed plenty of power at the plate. • Game 1: Columbia Central took the opener 11-7. Chelsea's offense was fueled by long balls from Ella Root and Lily McCalla, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Columbia Central's early lead. • Game 2: The nightcap ended in a 7-7 draw. Mia Kuboushek provided the highlight with a home run for the Bulldogs. The game was officially called after five innings due to darkness, leaving the score knotted. Boys Lacrosse: Offense Finds Rhythm in Loss The Boys Varsity Lacrosse team traveled to face a disciplined Tecumseh squad, falling 11-6. Despite the loss, there were silver lines for the Bulldogs. The Chelsea offense showed significant improvement and "perked up" compared to recent outings, finding more lanes and opportunities. However, the Tecumseh attack proved too much to handle over four quarters, preventing a Chelsea comeback.
