The Central Noble Cougars saw their postseason run come to an end Monday night, falling to Lakeland 11-5 in the IHSAA Sectional Championship game at Lakeland High School. The Lakers struck first with a run in the opening inning and extended their lead with a three-run third inning to take control early. Despite trailing 4-0, the Cougars battled back and put together a strong fifth inning to take a 5-4 advantage. Treyton Fletcher ignited the rally with an RBI double down the right field line, while Parker Boots added an RBI single. Boots later stole home, and Caden Douglas delivered an RBI single to cap off the comeback and give Central Noble its first lead of the game. Lakeland responded immediately in the bottom of the fifth, regaining the lead at 6-5 before breaking the game open with five runs in the sixth inning. The Cougars collected 12 hits in the contest and showed resilience throughout the championship matchup. Caden Douglas led the offense, going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and driving in two runs. Boots, Landen Burkhart, and Jerrick Deter each added multiple hits as Central Noble continued to apply pressure offensively. Corbin Douglas started on the mound for the Cougars, working five innings while striking out two batters. Defensively, Central Noble turned two double plays to help keep the game within reach. Although the season ended one win short of a sectional title, the Cougars put together a strong campaign highlighted by competitive play throughout the year and a deep postseason run. The sectional championship appearance showcased the determination and fight of a Central Noble team that never quit and represented the school with pride. Central Noble finishes the season with plenty to build on and memories from another successful year of Cougar baseball.
