The Caledonia boys track and field team competed at the MITCA Division 1 Team State meet on Friday placing 4th overall in the state! The meet is unique in that it is scored with points for everyone that competes in an event, so having team depth 1-3 in all events is vital. The boys team showed great depth in moving from being seeded 6th up to 4th place. There were so many amazing performances on the day leading to that move up the standings. Those finishing in the top 8 were as follows: 800 - Ayden Duffin 5th 1600 - Jordan Domany - 6th 3200 - Jordan Domany - 4th 110H - Owen Hager - 8th 4x100 - Jimmie Floyd, Dharius Walker, Brock Townsend, Ethan Berends - 7th 4x400 - Mason Osterhouse, Kalen Zuiderveen, Ayden Duffin, Sheldon Thomas 4x800 - Jonathan Miedema, Micah Nagel, Josh Maier, Ayden Duffin Shot Put - Theren Sanders - 3rd Discus - Ian Fedewa - 6th High Jump - Jordan Gutierrez - 5th Long Jump - Jordan Gutierrez - 2nd The Caledonia girls track & field team competed with the best "true teams" in the state on Friday at the MITCA Team State Meet in Zeeland. Teams must qualify for this meet based on their season best marks obtained throughout the season in all 17 events. Then once at the meet, every place counts for points, which is much different than the scoring in a traditional meet. In this year's meet 12 girls teams qualified, and each team was allowed 3 entries per event, so there were 36 girls in each event. 1st place=36pts, 2nd place=35 pts, 3rd place=34pts,......36th place=1 point. In relays, the points are doubled and then they decrease by 6 pts for each place: 1st place=72pts, 2nd place=66pts, .... 12th place=6pts. I am so proud of how our team performed and represented Caledonia as they ended up placing 10th in the state! And once again, every run, jump, and throw factored into our team results. Time and again the ladies improved upon their seed times/marks and helped us move up in the standings from where we were originally calculated at. The following ladies placed within the top 8 for their events on the day: Molly Winger- Pole Vault, 10'3"- 4th place Audrey Howell- 100m Hurdles, 16.35, 7th place Brooke Heyboer- 100m Dash, 13.04, 8th place Avah Winstrom, Audrey Howell, Brooke Heyboer, Teresa Abraham- 400m Relay, 50.91, 6th (2nd fastest time in Caledonia history!) Avah Winstrom- 400m Dash, 61.66, 5th place Audrey Howell- 300m Hurdles, 48.37, 3rd place Audrey Howell- 200m Dash 26.92, 7th place (breaking her old junior class record from this past Tuesday!)
