Wet Conditions Didn’t Do Much Harm As Both Boys and Girls Track and Field Teams Come Away Very Successful

The boys and girls track teams traveled to Portage Crntral on Friday afternoon for a very wet MHSAA Regional Meet. Oh the boys side, Caledonia moved up from their seeded place of 6th to 4th place in their Regional at Portage Central High School.  The team had many events where they outdid expectations going into the meet!  The team had 3 athletes qualify to compete at the MHSAA State Finals on June 3rd by hitting qualifying marks or finishing in the top 2 in their events.  Those athletes are Jordan Gutierrez in the Long Jump, Ian Fedewa in the Discus, and Owen Hager in the 110H hurdles. Medalists in the meet were: Long Jump - Jordan Gutierrez (2nd), Jett King (5th) High Jump - Jordan Gutierrez (6th) Discus - Ian Fedewa (4th) Shot Put - Theren Sanders (3rd) 4x800 Relay - Jonathan Miedema, Micah Nagel, Josh Maier, Ayden Duffin (7th) 110H - Owen Hager (5th) 4x200 Relay - Shaden Thomas, Jimmie Floyd, Matthew Spoehr, Dharius Walker (4th) 1600 - Jordan Domany (5th) 4x100 Relay - Jimmie Floyd, Dharius Walker, Brock Townsend, Ethan Berends (5th) 400 - Sheldon Thomas (5th) 300H - Owen Hager (6th) 800 - Ayden Duffin (8th) 200 - Matthew Spoehr (7th), Shaden Thomas (8th) 4x400 Relay - Mason Osterhouse, Kalen Zuiderveen, Ayden Duffin, Sheldon Thomas (4th) 100 meters - Dharius Walker (5th) and Ethan Berends (8th) The Caledonia girls track & field team endured soggy conditions and exceeded expectations in the regional meet on Friday.  Headed into the meet the ladies were seeded for 11th place, but were able to move up to 6th place out of the field of 15 schools! A couple of highlights on the night: * Molly Winger qualified for the MHSAA State Meet in the pole vault (2nd year in a row!) as she was over the automatic qualifying height by 6" with a jump of 10' 9"! * The 4x200m relay team of Avah Winstrom, Audrey Howell, Brooke Heyboer, and Teresa Abraham broke the school record by .19s. They broke their own record which the four of them set last year at this same location and meet! Regional Medalists for the ladies were as follows: HJ- Teresa Abraham and Emmi Mince, tied for 3rd LJ- Jolie King, 7th PV- Molly Winger, 5th SP- Kendall Benson, 7th Disc- Kiersten DeHaan, 5th 4x800m Relay- Alyssa DeFields, Leah Thompson, Leah Williams, Natalia Quigley, 8th 110 Hurdles- Audrey Howell, 7th 4x200m Relay- Avah Winstrom, Audrey Howell, Brooke Heyboer, Teresa Abraham, 3rd 400m- Avah Winstrom, 3rd 300m Hurdles- Audrey Howell, 3rd 1600m Relay- Avalynn Klapmust, Audrey Howell, Teresa Abraham, Avah Winstrom, 6th. Both teams will take this weekend off and then get ready for the Metro Health meet on Tuesday and the MITCA Team State Meet on Friday.
