Scots Bats Heat UP in Senior Night Win Over Union

The Fighting Scots certainly made senior night special as they rolled over Grand Rapids Union 10-0. Caledonia’s offense quickly got going in the bottom of the first. After starter Aaron Hileman struck out the side in the top of the first, Junior AJ Szabo singled to center field on a fly ball. Szabo was able to score when senior Mitchell Smith was able to single to left field. A double by senior Alec Sibkinski had the Scots with runners on second and third with still no outs in the inning. Caledonia took a 2-0 lead when senior Jace Lawton flew out to center field. A single by senior Luke Shuster was able to score Alex Sibkinski and extend the lead to 3-0. The lead then was extended to 4-0 when Drew Drennan was able to reach base on an error and score Shuster. The first inning ended with the Scots having a lead of 4-0. Both teams were held scoreless in the second inning. Caledonia’s offense continued to heat up in the bottom of the third when Jace Lawton and Micheal Douglass were able to reach base on a hit by pitch and single. Both Lawton and Douglass were able to score when Luke Shuster hit a fly ball that was miss played by the GR Union centerfielder. Caledonia’s lead was extended to 7-0 when Junior Isaac Jurmu doubled on a fly ball to deep center that scored Shuster. Caledonia then scored runs 8, 9 and 10 on a single by seniors Jace Lawton, Luke Shuster and Aaron Hileman. Aaron Hileman got the start for Caledonia. The Senior pitched two innings allowing no hits, no runs, no walks and striking out four. Drew Drennan then came in as he tossed two innings, allowing two hits, no runs, two walks and striking out two. Andrew Render was able to close the game out in the fifth as he allowed no runs, no hits, one walk and three strikeouts. Seniors Mitchell Smith, Luke Shuster and Aaron Hileman all had two hits to lead Caledonia.
