Scots Bats Struggle to Come Alive in Doubleheader Against Hudsonville

Game one was a pitching and defensive dual as the Eagles defeated the Scots 2-1. After Caledonia was held scoreless in the top of the first. A double by Hudsonville’s number two hitter and an error by Caledonia second baseman Kala Bisterfeldt allowed Caledonia to take a 1-0 lead. Hudsonville maintained their slim 1-0 lead through three innings. A lead off single by Mackenzie DeVries and a single by Malia Burke allowed Caledonia to tie the game at one. Hudsonville reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fifth with a lead off single, sacrifice bunt and sacrifice fly. The Scots offense couldn’t respond in the sixth or seventh as the Eagles held on to take game one. Molly Lieske got the start in game one for Caledonia. The Sophomore went six complete innings allowing one, seven hits, no walks and no strikeouts. Mackenzie DeVries, Molly Lieske and Peyton Brenner each had one hit for Caledonia. In game two, Hudsonville jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead off of a double and a single. Hudsonville extended the lead to 3-0 on a home run to center field. A walk and a double in the bottom of the third allowed the Eagles lead to be stretched to 4-0. The Eagles bats continued to stay hot as back to back to back singles, a groundout and a double gave Hudsonville a 7-0. A single in sixth inning gave Hudsonville a 9-0 lead. Jaz Dana got the start in game two for Caledonia. The junior pitched three and two thirds innings allowing eleven hits, seven runs and one walk. Addy Olin came in for relief as she pitched two and a thirds innings allowing two hits, two runs, two walks and two strikeouts. Sophomores Addy Lash and Molly Lieske each had a hit for Caledonia.
