Softball Evens Up Their Conference Record with Win Against West Ottawa

Caledonia Varsity Fighting Scots took the lead late in the game in a 4-2 victory over West Ottawa on Thursday. Caledonia opened up scoring in the first inning. After a walk by Kala Bisterfeldt and a Mckenize DeVries hit by pitch, the Scots were in prime position to take the first lead of the afternoon. Junior Jaz Dana was able to score DeVries on a ground out to the second baseman. After three scoreless innings, West Ottawa was able to tie the game up at one on a wild pitched. The game was tied at one with Caledonia Varsity Fighting Scots batting in the bottom of the fifth when Malia Burke singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring three runs. Junior Jaz Dana got the start for the Caledonia Fighting Scots. The righty surrendered zero runs on two hits over four innings, striking out six and walking zero. Sophomore Molly Lieske then came in to finish the job. Lieske allowed two hits, two runs and striking out one. Junior MacKenize DeVries led Caledonia Varsity Fighting Scots with two hits in three at bats. DeVries also had two RBIs. The girls will head to the Mattawan Invitational Saturday.
