Buccaneers Offense Too Strong as Scots Drop Series Finale

The Caledonia Fighting Scots had trouble keeping up with Grand Haven Buccaneers Varsity in a 12-2 loss on Thursday. The Bucs got the scoring started in the bottom of the third as the Bucs scored three. The inning was highlighted by a triple that scored two by Grand Haven’s number two hitter. Caledonia got their first run of the game in the top of the fourth when Derek Pennington got a base hit to right field to score Drew Drennan. Grand Haven got two more in the fourth to take a 5-1 lead. After Junior Tommy Clarey drew a one out walk, Senior Micheal Douglass ripped a drive to center to score Clarey. Grand Haven then shutdown the Scots rally with back to back strikeouts. The Buccaneers were able to score five in the bottom of the fourth and two more in the fifth to ultimately beat the Scots 12-2. Senior Mitchell Smith started the game for Caledonia. The righty lasted two and two-thirds innings, allowing five hits and five runs while striking out two. Luke Shuster and Isaac Jurmu entered the game as relief, throwing one and two-thirds innings and one-third of an inning respectively. Nick Slater, Michael Douglass, and Derek Pennington all had one hit to lead Varsity Caledonia Fighting Scots.
