Scots Even up Series After 9-6 Win

Varsity Caledonia Fighting Scots stole the lead late in the game in a 9-6 victory over Grand Haven last night after the game was stopped due to darkness. Caledonia opened up scoring in the first inning. After juniors AJ Szabo and Derek Pennington reached base, fellow junior Nick Slater was able to drive both in on an error by Grand Haven’s third baseman. Grand Haven Buccaneers Varsity scored all six runs of their in the fourth inning to tie the game at six. After a walk by Derek Pennington and s double by Nick Slater the Scots had the go ahead run in scoring position. Pennington was able to give the Scots the lead on a sac bunt by Corbin Raffler. Junior Tommy Clarey was able to give Cal a 9-6 lead. Senior Aaron Hileman started the game for the Scots but was credited with a no decision. Hileman surrendered six runs on seven hits over three and two-thirds innings, striking out four Jacob Stoczynski led the Fighting Scots to victory on the mound. Stoczynski allowed one hit and zero runs over one and one-third innings, striking out one and walking one. Junior Tommy Clarey went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Caledonia in hits. The Fighting Scots didn't commit a single error in the field. Which is the first time this season they accomplished that feat. Clarey led Caledonia with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with five stolen bases.
