Scots Offense Strong but Not Strong Enough as Bucs Take Game One

The Fighting Scotswatched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 19-9 loss to Grand Haven yesterday. Both the Scots and the Buccaneers had 14 in the high-scoring affair. The Buccaneers took the lead on a double in the first inning. The Buccaneers opened up scoring in the first inning. An error scored one run for Grand Haven. The Fighting Scots notched four runs in the fourth inning. The offensive onslaught came from singles by Derek Pennington, Nick Slater, Alex Skibinski, and Tommy Clarey. Junior Nick Slater started the game for Caledonia. Slater allowed eight hits and ten runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out four. Andrew Render, Zack Maurer, and Carter Born each contributed in relief for Cal. Derek Pennington, Michael Douglass, Nick Slater, Mitchell Smith, Alex Skibinski, and AJ Szabo all collected multiple hits for the Scots. Szabo, Skibinski, Smith, Slater, Douglass, and Pennington each collected two hits to lead Caledonia.
