Scots Rally Back From Six Run Deficit but Fall Short in Game 2

It was a tough afternoon for the Scots as they lose game two 8-5. After stranding runners on second and third in the top of the first, Byron Center scored six in the bottom of the first. The Scots responded in the second inning Maddox Greenfield and Zach Maurer started the inning back to back singles. The Scots got the first run on the board when Junior AJ Szabo was able to beat out the throw from the Byron Center shortstop scoring Wysocki. Back to back to back walks by BC allowed Caledonia to score their second run. Byron Center scored one in the bottom of the second to stretch the lead to 7-2. Byron Center was held scoreless until the 6th. A walk by Zach Maurer and a double by Mitchell Smith allowed the Scots to score their third run of the game. Derek Pennington started the fifth out with a base hit. Pennington was able to score after Micheal Douglass laced a triple into centerfield. Luke Shuster kept the rally going on a line drive single to right scoring Douglass. Zach Maurer also singled to advance Shuster to second. Byron Center was able to get out of the inning with back to back fly outs. The Scots were held scoreless in both the sixth and seventh. Drew Drennan was on the pitcher's mound for Caledonia. The junior surrendered six runs on three hits over one-third of an inning. Isaac Jurmu and Mitchell Smith entered the game as relief, throwing four and two-thirds innings and one inning respectively. Caledonia scattered nine hits in the game. Pennington and Maurer both had two hits to lead the Scots.
