The Fighting Scots battled tough conditions on Saturday, playing through overcast skies and steady 20-25 mph winds, but ultimately fell 1-0 in a hard-fought match against sixth-ranked Rochester Adams. Cal came out with strong energy early and created several chances in the opening minutes. A corner kick from Jordyn Smith in the second minute caused problems in the box before being cleared away, and Smith followed with a shot just wide right in the third minute. Playing into the wind in the first half, the Scots continued to pressure with another dangerous Smith corner in the 12th minute. Adams generated opportunities of its own, including multiple corner kicks and shots on goal, but goalkeeper Lilli Ward made key saves to keep the match scoreless. Baylee DeVries nearly broke through in the 33rd minute with a shot from the right side that sailed just wide left. The teams entered halftime tied 0-0 after an even and energetic opening 40 minutes. Adams increased pressure early in the second half, forcing several saves and chances before finally breaking through in the 51st minute from 19 yards out just under the crossbar for the game’s lone goal. The Scots responded with urgency as DeVries raced onto a ball for a shot on goal in the 58th minute, and Cal earned several second-half corner kicks. A potential handball in the Highlanders penalty area in the 59th minute went uncalled, keeping the Scots from a possible equalizer. Reese Abbott helped defend a dangerous Adams corner in the 66th minute, while Smith continued to deliver quality service on free kicks late in the match. Despite continued pressure and strong effort throughout, Cal was unable to find the equalizer and dropped a narrow 1-0 decision.
