Caledonia High School Athletics

The Caledonia ladies track and field team had a meet for the ages on Friday night at the OK Green Championships held at Byron Center. The ladies came in ranked 2nd overall in the conference and seeded to place 3rd in the meet, but in event after event, the ladies stepped up and outperformed their seed marks and moved up the standings and won the meet, which allowed them to also be crowned OK Green Conference Champions! The championship is a co-championship shared with Jenison as they won dual meet season and Caledonia won the championship meet, but regardless, they came home with the Conference Championship Trophy! There were many highlights over the course of the night, but three that stood out were as follows: Olivia Hawkins set a new school record in the 300m Hurdles with a time of 46.28 breaking the 17 year old mark of 46.85 set by Michelle Butcher in 2009 Brynn Ward broke both of her own school records in the 100 and 200, while also helping the 4x1 and the 4x2 to victories for a night that included four 1st place finishes. In the sport of track and field 27 athletes earn All-Conference status and the Cal girls took 11 of those positions! (over 40%!). All Conference Athletes were as follows: Brooke Bender (winning 4x4 team) Akaela Daman (additional qualifier by points) Addisyn Gerken (winning 4x1 and 4x4 team) Melanie Genao Grullon (additional qualifier by points) Olivia Hawkins (winning and 4x4 team and 100 Hurdles Champ) Evie Huttenga (winning 4x3 team) Mariah Peterson (winning 4x1 team) Averi Rosted (winning 4x1 and 4x2 team) Isla Sheely (winning 4x1 and 4x2 team) Brynn Ward (winning 4x1 and 4x2 teams and 100m and 200m Champ) Lilli Ward (additional qualifier by points) The ladies also brought home 40 medals for the night!
