Detroit Country Day broke through in the eighth minute when DCD converted a rebound with an initial shot off the right post to give them a 1-0 lead. The Fighting Scots responded in the 38th minute with a well-timed run and finish. Baylee DeVries delivered a ball over the top and Ellie VanderRoest beat both a defender and the oncoming goalkeeper, before calmly finishing into an open net from six yards out to even the match at 1-1. However, DCD answered just three minutes into the second half capitalizing on a dropped ball off the gloves of the keepr, tapping in the go-ahead goal to give Detroit Country Day a 2-1 advantage. The Scots pushed forward in the second half, generating several scoring chances while controlling possession over the final 15 minutes. Kelsey Rozskowski recorded a long-range effort in the 51st minute for the team’s first shot on goal of the half, while a 30-yard free kick in the 63rd minute nearly resulted in an equalizer before a rebound attempt from Estella Finkbeiner was cleared off the line by a DCD defender. The Fighting Scots continued to apply pressure late, as Natalie James forced a leaping save from 25 yards out in the 77th minute, setting up a corner. In the closing minute, DeVries delivered a final corner kick, and the ball bounced around in a group of players before being cleared, preserving the DCD victory.
