Caledonia High School Athletics

Cadillac , MI — The Caledonia Ski Team started around 1994, when a few ski racers and Coach Bryce Beckett convinced the district to allow the team. Over the years, there has had ups and downs including a bunch of Conference Championships and qualifying for the State Finals in 2017, but this was the first Regional Championship in school history. Monday's race was held at Caberfae Peaks and was hosted by Cadillac. "Coming into the race, we knew if our guys skied like they have all season we would have a chance at winning today and once we were though with the first run of giant slalom it became evident that today was going to a historic day for the Caledonia Ski Team." Coach Petrosky "our guys won GS in the morning session, beating some great teams including the defending state champion, East Grand Rapids." In Giant Slalom the Scots had two regional medals winners, sophomore Jake Potgeter 7th place and junior James Prichard 10th place. Also earning All Region status and scoring was junior Jackson Otto with a 13th place finish. Rounding out the scoring was junior Aidan Brown with a 17th place finish. After the morning session the Scots were in first place with a 6.5 point lead. "All season long we have been second in GS and then have great slalom runs, so when we had the lead going into slalom we felt really good. Our guys have won most of the slalom events at our races and today was another great performance. We had an injury in GS and had to sub but had total confidence that our guys could still pull off the win and they did." "We are so proud of our team, these guys have really put together a great season built off of their hard work and dedication. Our seniors have been great leaders and now the underclassmen are taking the lessons they have learned and putting them to use. Our guys push each other but are always supportive and are so fun to coach." Earning Regional medals in slalom were Jackson Otto (8th place) and Jake Potger (9th place). Also earning All Region status was Aidan Brown with a 15th place finish and rounding out the scoring was James Prichard (16th place). Caledonia has a busy week with a conference make up race on Wednesday Feb 11th and the Norm's GS Championship on Saturday Feb 14th.
