The Bremen Varsity took home a big time conference win against LaVille winning 3-2 at the home of the South Bend Cubs. The Lancers struck first by producing a pair of hits in the top of the first to go up 1-0. From there, Lion ace Aden Hunziker dominated the rest of the way. After the first Hunziker only allowed 2 additional hits and 1 unearned run. He finished the game going 6 1/3 allowing 4 hits 1 earned, and striking out 7. The Bremen offense came alive in the bottom of the 4th. Silas Laidig led the inning off with a single, JJ Cencelewski was hit by a pitch, then Hunziker singled to left plating Laidig for the first Lion run. After a wild pitch advanced the runners to 2nd and 3rd, Zack Buszkiewicz had a hard hit to second forcing a Lancer error allowing the Lions to score 2 more runs. The game went scoreless in the 5th and 6th and stood at 3-1 in the top of 7. LaVille started the inning with a single, followed by a Lion error to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Hunziker forced a pop out to collect the first out of the inning and end his day due to pitch count. Casey Ton took the bump for the Lions to finish out the game. The Lancers singled to load the bases. With the game on the line defensive replacement Corban VanVuren made an unbelievable diving catch in left field to save a bases clearing triple and only allowed 1 LaVille run. With a 3-2 game Ton forced a ground ball to Jace Pippenger who made a nice play to seal the game for Bremen. It was a great atmosphere with a fantastic crowd out to support and an outstanding effort by the Lions. Thank you to our donors, athletic department, Topping Dental, and the community for making this a great night of baseball!
