IHSAA Girls Wrestling Regionals

The Lions took two girls to the 2nd Annual IHSAA Girls Wrestling Regionals. Makenzie Shumaker as a participant and McKenzie Scott as an alternate. McKenzie Scott would only be able to wrestle if someone from our sectional missed weight or was injured. That is exactly what happened--one of the girls in her weight from sectional missed weight and Scott was put in to wrestle at regionals. McKenzie wrestled a sectional champ from last week and had her on her back for most of the first period. Scott came up short. McKenzie ended her Sophomore season being a 2 time Regional qualifier. Makenzie Shumaker would face a girl who placed fourth in a sectional from a week ago. Shumaker pinned her first round girl to advance to the ticket round. Makenzie would go on to pin a tough Garrett wrestler to advance to her third High School State appearance. Makenzie dropped her semi finals match to a strong Crown Point wrestler who ended up winning regionals. Shumaker won her last match of the day giving her 3rd place. This is Makenzie Shumaker's 97th career win. Shumaker will be back in action next Friday at the Indiana State Fairgrounds to compete for a State Championship.
