Boone County High School

Boone County hosted the first annual "John Strawn Nutter Memorial Tournament" on Saturday Jan. 14. Strawn Nutter was a 1983 Boone County graduate and the 155 lb KHSSA State Champion and the "Most Outstanding Wrestler" for that year. After high school Strawn moved to Louisville, joined the Marines, and then served in the Air National Guard while becoming a firefighter for the city. On Aug, 3 1994, Strawn ultimately gave his life fighting a fire. This tournament honors the memory of his love and compassion for others. The tournament featured eight teams from three states in the Boone County High School gymnasium. Evansville North High School claimed the championship, and the host finished fourth.
