Last night, the Vikings traveled to Bloomingdale to take on the Cassopolis Rangers in the district semifinals. What seemed like a good night turned into a gloomy first 5 minutes of the game. Captain Carlos V. came down with an injury and was not able to continue playing. As time continued, the Vikings conceded from a corner, putting us down 1-0 before half-time. During halftime, the Vikings reconnected and came out with the hunger to win. 20 minutes into the second half, junior Gio Soriano leveled up the score with a pass from fellow junior Aziel C. The Rangers were not happy with the equalizer, so they came back to put us down for the second time in the game, 2-1. With just 3 minutes left in regular time, freshman Eduardo A. broke through the defense and found Gio S. across the field to put us at 2-2 just before the game ended. After regular time, we went into the first half of overtime with the drive to push through. Eventually, we found a break with 5 minutes left in the half, when Aziel C. took a high shot from outside the box. This led to a keeper error from Cassopolis, leaving the ball in the middle where freshman Angel P. came out and found the back of the net, putting us at 3-2 in overtime. With 15 minutes left overall, the Vikings found the drive to keep the lead and eventually came out with a 3- 2 win. I could not be more proud of how our team has transformed! The commitment and teamwork these boys have shown represent what Bangor Vikings Soccer means. We now move onto the district finals against the Bloomindgale Cardinals where we get a final rematch for a district trophy. Kickoff will be at 7:00 pm in Bloomingdale. Come out and support your Bangor Vikings!
