The T&F season came to a conclusion on a wet afternoon at Hamilton High School during the State D2 track and field finals. The outcome? Best results ever for both teams. Emma DeVries became the first WMAA athlete to accomplish dual all-state recognition during one meet. With the rain falling from the heavens, Emma finished third in the 1600M run with a school record of 4:59.46. Emma enjoyed the rain so much, she went back onto the track and finished 5th in the 800M with yet another school record time of 2:16.15. This makes back-to-back years Emma has made all state. Andrew Dudka had a busy day as he competed in the 200M prelims in the morning. Andrew ran in a talent rich heat and finished third. However, this was just a warm-up as his favorite event, the 400M sprint, was coming up in the afternoon. The rain did not slow down Andrew as he ran to a school record 49.84 to finish in 5th place. Andrew is the men's first D2 all stater. Sophomore Noah Johnston competed in the 1600M run against an incredible field of runners. Noah ran a great race and finished in 18th place with a time of 4:29.12. Outstanding year Noah, the future is bright for you. The final event of the day was the 4X400 relay. The team of Jonathan VanEss, Josh Bott, Anthony Garcia and Andrew Dudka ran to a school record of 3:28.31 to finish in 10th place. This was the first time a WMAA men's relay team qualified for the state finals. Job well done guys! 139 schools competed in the D2 state finals this past weekend.
