This past Saturday we participated in the D2 regionals at Sparta. The weather started out overcast and breezy, but quickly changed to warm and sunny. Medals are awarded for first thru 8th places in all events. Senior Nora Buys started off the morning with a school and meet record of 17'-0" in the long jump. Her first-place finish qualified her for the state finals. The 4X800 relay team Dillian Roosien, Evan Kamps, Gibson Isanhart and Greg Anderson finish in 8th place while the girls' team of Natalie DeMoor, Ashley Larsen, Charleigh Kimble and Maggie Duong finished in 5th place. Maggie Duong, Nora Buys, Sofia Lewis and Alysee LeBolt teamed up to medal in the 4X400 relay with a time of 4:38.39 good for 7th place. Brighton King (13.32) and Walter Gale (13.86) set PB's in the 100M race. Evan Kamps set a PB in the 400 with a time of 58.50. In the women's race Nora Buys finished in 8th place with a time of 1:04.27. In the women's 800M race Charleigh Kimble did a SB of 2:46.03 follow by Ashley Larsen PB of 2:45.14. Sophomore Jacob Kornoely qualified for the state finals by finishing in 7th place in the 1600M with a state qualifying time of 4:30.84. Difficult to qualify for state as a sophomore so congrats to Jacob. Ahna Woltjer placed second in the women's 1600 with a PB & state qualifying time 5:13.70. Second year in a row she has qualified for state. Asher Jager qualified for state in the 3200M race by finishing in third place with a state qualifying time of 9:46.00. Second year in a row he has qualified for state. In the women's 3200M Ahna placed 9th and teammate Katelyn Veldheer ran a PB of 14:11.51. The state meet will be held at Hamilton High School on Saturday, May 30th.
