The Aquinas Academy girls soccer team will take the field under the lights at FNB Field this evening for a section matchup against first-place Winchester Thurston. Winchester Thurston enters the match with a perfect 5-0 record in section play, while the Crusaders come in at 2-2 in the section. Aquinas will look to continue its push through the second half of the section schedule while getting another opportunity against one of the top teams in the section. The Crusaders are led by senior captain and defender Lucy Keverline, who has helped anchor a young Aquinas lineup this season. Sophomore Gabby Keverline leads the Crusaders in scoring, while sophomore Mary Grace Dolan and junior Macy Thiel have also turned in strong performances throughout the year. Aquinas has used several players in goal this season. Senior Aurora Predis, sophomore Gabby Keverline and freshman Bella Rossi have all seen time in net as the Crusaders have adjusted their lineup throughout the season. The Aquinas roster features a large group of underclassmen who have taken on significant roles. Despite dealing with several injuries, the Crusaders have continued to develop as the season has progressed. Thursday's match will also give Aquinas an opportunity to measure that progress against a familiar opponent. Winchester Thurston defeated Aquinas 7-2 earlier this season, but the series between the two programs has produced a number of physical, competitive matchups. Assistant Coach Maria Phelps said the Crusaders are looking forward to the opportunity to show how much they have improved since the first meeting and to compete on a professional field at FNB Field. For Aquinas, the setting adds something special to an already important section match. The Crusaders will have the opportunity to compete against the section leader while playing in one of Pittsburgh's premier soccer venues.
