It was a rainy Monday for Aquinas Academy Athletics, but the Crusaders still turned in several strong performances on the soccer field and golf course. Sophomore Gabby Keverline scored twice as the girls soccer team battled Carlynton, while Ian Patterson earned a trip to the WPIAL Golf Championship with an impressive performance in difficult conditions. The Aquinas girls soccer team entered Monday night looking to build on its 6-1 victory over Serra Catholic last week. Carlynton struck first and took a 1-0 advantage into halftime, but the Crusaders responded in the second half. Keverline scored twice to erase the deficit and put Aquinas in front, 2-1. The lead would not hold, however, as Carlynton scored twice over the final 20 minutes to come away with a 3-2 victory. Despite the loss, Aquinas played well against a Carlynton team that improved to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in section play. The Crusaders move to 1-3 overall and 1-3 in the section. Keverline’s two-goal performance gives her a team-leading four goals on the young season. The sophomore has scored four times over Aquinas’ last two games after also finding the back of the net twice in the Crusaders’ victory over Serra Catholic. Aquinas will have several days to prepare for its next section test. The Crusaders return to action Monday, September 28, when they travel to The Ellis School for an important section matchup. --------- Patterson Earns Trip to WPIAL Tournament The weather also presented a challenge on the golf course Monday, where Asher Buchanan, Ian Patterson and Luke Patterson represented Aquinas in WPIAL qualifying. All three Crusaders played well on a rain-soaked course, with Patterson putting together the round he needed to extend his season. He shot an 82 to make the cut and earn a spot in the WPIAL Tournament. Patterson will now represent Aquinas at the WPIAL Tournament next week at South Hills Country Club. Congratulations to Asher, Ian and Luke on representing Aquinas in the qualifiers, and good luck to Ian as he moves on to WPIALs! --------- Follow Aquinas Athletics on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/aquinascrusaders/ Follow Aquinas Athletics on X: https://x.com/AquinasAD For the latest Aquinas Academy Athletics news, schedules, results and more, visit: https://aquinascrusaders.org/ #GoAquinas #AquinasAthletics
