The Aquinas Academy boys soccer team is gaining recognition across the WPIAL. The Crusaders entered the Trib HSSN Class 1A Top Five in the latest WPIAL boys soccer rankings released September 20, following a strong stretch that included impressive performances against several section opponents. Aquinas has shown it can compete with some of the best teams in Class 1A, highlighted by its 3-1 victory over Freedom Area on September 10. Freedom was ranked among the top five Class 1A teams at the time, but the Crusaders came away with an important section victory. Enzo Anselmino opened the scoring for Aquinas before John Dolan scored what proved to be the game-winning goal. Zach Hartle added another goal to secure the 3-1 win. The Crusaders followed that performance by giving undefeated Beaver County Christian one of its toughest tests of the season. Beaver County Christian entered the September 16 matchup with a perfect 7-0 record, but Aquinas battled the section leader throughout the night before falling 1-0. Junior goalkeeper Oggie Pribach and the Aquinas defense kept the Crusaders within striking distance from start to finish, holding Beaver County Christian to just one goal. Aquinas continued its strong defensive play on September 17, battling Neshannock to a 0-0 draw on the road. Pribach and the Crusaders recorded the shutout and earned an important point in the section standings. The three-game stretch against Freedom, Beaver County Christian and Neshannock demonstrated the strength of the Aquinas defense. The Crusaders allowed just two goals across the three matches while earning a win, a draw and a narrow one-goal loss. Those performances helped Aquinas earn a spot in the latest Trib HSSN rankings, placing the Crusaders among the Top Five teams in WPIAL Class 1A. The recognition comes as Aquinas continues through a competitive section schedule. The Crusaders have defeated a previously Top Five-ranked Freedom team, taken undefeated Beaver County Christian down to the wire and recorded a road shutout against Neshannock.
