The Lincoln-King Eagles hired a new Girl's Basketball Coach. Matthew Thomas joins the Eagles to lead the Girl's to new heights through the sport. Coach Thomas attended the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor and completed a Bachelors of Arts in Sociology. Directly out of college, he began working and coaching at. Assisted on their Girl's Varsity Basketball Team while they captured multiple district championships. Head Coach for Advanced Technology Academy's 7th and 8th Grade Girls Basketball Team for three years and helped grow their middle school programs. Coach Thomas gave the following statement to highlight his excitement for the season: "My first goal as the head of Cornerstone Girls Basketball Program is to make the organization's girls basketball teams more connected with each other. Through the relationships that I build with the coaches at each elementary school and middle school we should be able to maximize our efforts to prepare our athletes for the next level. Not only by providing our athletes with the most opportunities to learn and work on their game, but by also providing them with unique opportunities and experiences. We want to make it an easy choice for our students and their families when deciding where their 8th grader goes to high school. The end goal is to build all of our programs to the point where they all can compete at the top of their respective leagues, win championships, help prepare our kids for their next level, and help expand the Cornerstone district with girls basketball. As for being the Head Coach of the Varsity Girls Basketball Team, my first year goals are very ambitious. Being a top competitor in both our conference and the district tournament are very close to being the top of my priorities, but my main goal is building a good relationship and foundation with my team and their families, the Lincoln-King High School community, and the entire Cornerstone District. However, I truly believe that great strides can be made in all of these areas. I've recently met a few of the girls who played last year in an open gym and I'm already quite impressed. If they continue to work as hard as they have and be great leaders for their future teammates, I believe these young ladies will play a big part in laying the foundation. Coming off of a great season last year, I know they're ready to get after it again!" Coach Thomas is also a 4th Grade Teacher at Adams-Young Elementary to further express his commitment to Cornerstone. We're looking forward to our girl's season!
